Jean Nouvel

Jean Nouvel is a French architect who was also the co-founder of the French Architectural Movement "Mars 1976". The Lourve Abu Dhabi is a planned museum to be located in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The expected date was to be completed within 2012 but revised with an estimate made for a completion date of 2015. The size of this design will be approximately 24,000 square meters.

The planned building and design really gives an atmospherical feel even just from the images you can see and get a feeling of what being inside would feel like. The different elements that are within the space work well together to form a unique feeling - in the way that the light is entering the building and how the building is filled with water. The interior has a domed ceiling designed as a "seemingly floating dome structure", with the web patterned dome allowing sun to filter through. This overall effect is meant to represent "rays of sunlight passing through date palm fronds in an oasis".

Looking at this design as an influence to the feeling of my design, the spatial qualities of it is so unique and beautiful with the way that the light enters and the pattern of light is a large cause of this. For my design I am looking to further the way that the light can have a larger effect on the space by looking at materials and light forms.
